NATIONAL ACCOLADE FOR ENGINEERING RESEARCHER - Nylacast

Written by Simon Machin | 1 October 2015

Professor Malcolm Fox, a leading expert in engineering polymers and head of research and development at international engineering firm Nylacast, has been appointed Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor at the University of Bradford.

Professor Fox will divide his time between Nylacast’s UK headquarters in Leicester where he develops new polymer components and materials and teaching engineering students at the university, which has a global reputation for polymer engineering.

Several of the new developments in products and processes for which Professor Fox has been responsible over 26 years at Nylacast will feature on the company’s stand at the Engineering Design Show in October.
At the University of Bradford, he will be responsible for developing student industrial experience, including creating new e-learning MSc courses for the polymer industry. Based in the UK, US and South Africa, Nylacast’s own commitment to training and development includes a multi-award-winning apprenticeship programme that the 400-strong company sees as key to its growth.

Professor Fox said: “While many UK science and engineering graduates work in the polymer/plastics industry, their preparation for this in colleges and universities is very thin. I am looking forward to being able to help prepare young adults for successful careers in the field.”

Previously, a professor at De Montfort University in Leicester and a Visiting Professor at the University of Leeds on lubrication and wear, Professor Fox is also an expert court witness in cases of fuel, lubricant and wear civil claims, particularly for marine diesel engines.
